Here are some examples of different programmings that we have hosted in the past to give you an idea of different types of opportunities available to volunteer:

Free First Thursday

On the first Thursday of each month the Museum of Flight stays open late with free admission for the community. SUMM will be staffing tables during this event with math based activities for visitors. As a SUMM Volunteer you will be responsible for helping to engage families, guide interactions with the provided materials, explain math concepts as applicable and promote SUMM.

SUMM + Zeno Family Math Fun

Seattle Universal Math Museum (SUMM) is partnering with Zeno to implement a series of 20 program sessions with up to 50 families in 2023 for 21 fun math sessions. We will engage with parents/caregivers and kids, demonstrating playing with math with their children ages 3-10, and providing free take-away materials to continue the math learning experience at home. Volunteers at this event will interact with families and facilitate math based play stations.

AweSUMM Math Space

These events are held at libraries and will include a variety of math games and activities for families to drop in and check out. As a SUMM Volunteer you will be responsible for helping to engage families, guide interactions with the provided materials and explain math concepts as applicable.

Afterschool Math + Art Class

This afterschool class series is held at the Stroum Jewish Community Center. Students will experience math hands on by creating math based art projects. SUMM Volunteers will help the students to complete their projects under the direction of a SUMM Educator.

Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival

The Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival empowers communities to create magical math moments. They create fun math experiences, develop math games, and train educators how to inspire joy with math. SUMM is hosting a JRMF at the MoF. Volunteers will be responsible for directing and engaging participants in an assigned activity station. Station specific training will occur immediately before the event.

…and so much more! We continue to expand our offerings to the community and expand opportunities for volunteer involvement. Continue to check the “My Volunteer Info” page in your Neon One portal to see what new opportunities are available!
