she/her/hers
Kim is a creative problem-solver with a passion for STEAM education. As a scientist, she understands the need to engage the community in STEAM learning and exploration in a hands-on, wonder-focused way. She loves the "aha" moment of understanding and believes all students are natural scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.
Early in her career she was in the camp of "math is hard", then a middle school math teacher refused to believe she couldn't do it and a high school physics teacher blew her mind with science.
Kim went on to earn a Bachelors in Microbiology from UW and a PhD in Cell Biology at the Max-Plank Institute in Dresden, Germany. She's been known to run a mean confocal microscope.
While she enjoys working at the bench, her real love has always been STEAM outreach. Kim has collaborated with nonprofits and school districts to develop K-12 science curriculum, teach robotics, start a STEM lab, and design a STEM digital badging platform. She lives in Seattle with her husband, two children and dog.
When not asking her kids "why does that happen", you will find her traveling with her family, playing outdoors, entertaining friends, or walking the dog.
