SUMMIT Mentor Recruitment

The Seattle Universal Math Museum (SUMM) is recruiting volunteer mentors for our new after school program, Students Using Mathematics to Inspire Tomorrow (SUMMIT)! SUMMIT is designed to help marginalized students build confidence and joy in mathematics through creative, student-led projects. As a mentor, you’ll guide students in exploring their own math-inspired ideas and support them in developing a positive math identity. If you are enthusiastic about working with youth and have professional or volunteer experience in a STEM field or secondary education, SUMM needs you!

SUMMIT Phase 2

SUMMIT is currently entering its second phase, and we need your help for it to succeed!

What will I be doing?

You’ll be speaking for around 30 minutes about your job, either in-person at Washington Middle School or via Zoom. You may also be answering questions from middle schoolers about your work.

When will I be presenting?

Presentations will happen during SUMMIT meeting time, at 2:30 PM PST on Wednesdays from January 26, 2026 to May 18, 2026. No meetings will happen on February 16 or April 13.

Do I need to know advanced math?

No advanced math knowledge is needed! Just bring enthusiasm for your field. A SUMM educator will work with you to find and discuss the math in your job.

When are applications due?

Applications are due on Friday, January 23rd, 2026.
