Many of us know that giving a paper strip a single twist and stapling the ends together creates a Möbius strip—but that is just where the fun begins!
In this hands-on workshop, we will look at humble paper strips in a completely new light. By stapling them together in creative and unexpected ways, we will construct fascinating topological spaces known as ribbon graphs. The goal of this session is to train your eye to see these interconnected paper loops not just as lines, but as continuous surfaces. For the fiber artists in the room, crocheters can choose to apply these exact same geometric concepts to yarn. By working with foundation chains, you can build intricate chain graphs and begin transforming them into stunning, tactile sculptures.
All participants are welcome! No prior experience or mathematical knowledge is needed, and all materials will be provided.
