Intersections: Math, Art, Truth, + Humanity

  • Mercer Island Community and Events Center 8236 Southeast 24th Street Mercer Island, WA, 98040 United States (map)

Mathematics and art have the power to reveal truths—about the universe and about what it means to be human. In Spring 2025, SUMM will celebrate this theme with a public art exhibition, jointly produced by SUMM and the Mercer Island Visual Arts League (MIVAL), with support from the City of Mercer Island.

Exhibition attendees are invited to experience mathematical “aha” moments, and delight in how 2D and 3D artworks can illuminate facts about individuals or societies, or otherwise emphasize the humanistic aspects of mathematics.

This exhibition provides opportunities to touch and manipulate several of the pieces, and be drawn into viewing physical representations of mathematical concepts and phenomena. There will be activities to engage both youth and adults, as well as guided group viewings or associated activity workshops by appointment. All questions should be directed to Tracy Drinkwater, SUMM Founder + Board President, tracy@seattlemathmuseum.org.

Gallery Hours: Monday–Thursday, 9am–7pm; Friday–Saturday, 9am–5pm
Receptions:  March 5th, 5pm–7pm + April 4th, 5pm–7pm
