Math in… Poetry

Poetry doesn’t have to follow rules or patterns, but poets often have reasons to give their work more structure. A pattern in the number of syllables per line, for example, creates a rhythm that could make a poem feel a certain way when read aloud or help it fit within an established tradition.

A haiku is a 3-line poem with syllable counts of 5-7-5, in that order. Check that our poem is a haiku.

You might have noticed more math in our haiku, even if it’s a groaner of a pun! See if you can write your own silly math haiku.
