Math in… Chess

A chessboard is an 8-by-8 grid of squares with alternating light and dark colors. The chessboard utilizes a coordinate system to precisely locate each square on the board. This system uses letters a through h to represent vertical columns, and numbers 1 through 8 to represent horizontal rows. This coordinate system allows players to communicate moves clearly, and provides a standardized method for recording and analyzing chess games.
