A Tacoma native, Nick didn't see himself as a math person until the point in his education when numbers started getting replaced with letters. Intending to major in physics with heavy mathematics coursework, he accidentally graduated as a math major from Harvey Mudd College before ultimately earning a PhD in number theory from the University of Texas at Austin on purpose.

Since then he has split his time between higher education and math enrichment for K-12 students. He has held positions at Texas State University, the National Museum of Mathematics, Sarah Lawrence College, and Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival. When not mathing, Nick enjoys music, homebrewing, and video games.
