Glen Whitney

Secretary

Since accidentally falling in love with math at summer camp in his teens, every stage of Glen Whitney's life has revolved around some aspect of mathematics and its communication to others. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Math, a Master's in Linguistics, and a Ph.D. in Logic, before a stint as an Assistant Professor in the math department at the University of Michigan.

His pursuits then took a turn toward applied mathematics, as he spent a decade at a quantitative finance firm engaged in research on the workings of equity markets. Spurred in part by leading a math club at his daughter's elementary school, Glen next turned to public math outreach, founding a not-for-profit located in New York City dedicated to that mission, the National Museum of Mathematics.

Since then, Glen has engaged in large-scale public participatory events that bring out the beauty of mathematics (examples at Studio Infinity) and now serves as the "Problem Warden" for the Prison Math Project, editing its problem department, which you are welcome to see and contribute to at The Prisoner's Dilemma.
