Math in… Dandelions

A dandelion flower head has the shape of a sphere. A sphere is a three-dimensional analogue to a circle; it is the set of points that are all at the same distance from a point in 3D space. Just like for the circle, the distance is called the radius. Therefore, the “beaks” of the flower head are of approximately the same length!
