Math in… Ferris Wheels

A photo of a ferris wheel. A thought bubble says "Which gondola offers the best view on a Ferris wheel?"

The Ferris wheel has the shape of a circle. A circle is one of the most special shapes in mathematics, because it is made up of all points that are the same distance away from the center. This distance is called the radius of the circle.

On a Ferris wheel, each gondola is one radius away from the center of the wheel. As the wheel rotates one full circle, each gondola goes around the circle exactly once.

Therefore, you get the same experience no matter which gondola you choose!
