She/Her/Hers

Ellen Eischen is a professor of mathematics at the University of Oregon.  She enjoys connecting with people and communicating about mathematics, for example by employing skills from her training in improvisational theater.  Creativity Counts, an installation she organized at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art to share a creative side of mathematics with the public, became the JSMA's most visited virtually-accessible exhibit.  In recognition of her commitment to building community and promoting broad participation in mathematics, she was named a Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics.  Recognition for her research contributions includes a National Science Foundation CAREER award and a von Neumann Fellowship.

Eischen graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University. She was then awarded a Bell Labs Graduate Research Fellowship, which supported her work on her PhD in mathematics at the University of Michigan, as well as extended visits at Columbia University and Princeton University. Before moving to the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Eischen held positions at the University of North Carolina and Northwestern University.  During the 2024—2025 academic year, she will be a von Neumann Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
